Devils Hairpin , Cornel Wilde, Original Italian Poster 1957
The Devils Hairpin was effectively, the Cornel Wilde precursor to McQueen’s Le Mans.
Wilde ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0664273/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm ) wrote, directed, starred and drove…..sound familiar ?
This, for me, is one of the best motor-racing movie posters of them all, featuring the D-Type Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Chuck Porter’s re-bodied Mercedes ‘SLS’. Add to that a couple of gorgeous starlets, and the image is irresistible.
Condition is good. The fold lines are a little weak and have been reinforced with conservation tape. There is a small hole in the top centre vertical fold junction. Paper quality in this period of Italian posters was bloody awful, but art and printing quality was wonderful, as you can see.
Not shown is the small postage stamp in the upper right border, which was used as proof that the ‘paper tax’ had been paid, and is now regarded as further excellent provenance.
One of several original posters for THE DEVILS HAIRPIN that I have here on Drivepast, from various countries.
